SLIPKNOT: No Hometown Show At 7 Flags Events Center

April 2, 2004

TheIowaChannel.com is reporting that the Clive City Council voted 3 to 2 Thursday night (April 1) against allowing SLIPKNOT to hold a hometown concert at the 7 Flags Event Center.

The band wanted to hold a concert for their fans on Tuesday, April 27. But city council members say they've never given a noise permit for the 7 Flags Event Center on a weeknight, and aren't going to do so in this case.

"I'm here tonight to ask you for a noise permit, because they will not have the concert at the events center if you do not issue the permit," 7 Flags' Lemar Koethe said.

More than 30 SLIPKNOT fans showed up at the meeting to support the concert and the permit.

Only one resident publicly complained about noise from the nearby events center.

"We cannot sit on our deck and carry on a conversation when bands are playing," Clive resident Connie Schmidt said.

However, the majority of speakers supported the band.

"This is beyond being a decision about a sound ordinance. It is clearly a signal to the young people of this community whether Clive welcomes them," Henry Phillips said.

"I really encourage you to pass this noise ordinance so the kids have something to do. It would be really lame if you didn't," an unnamed speaker said.

Several council members said they are not opposed to SLIPKNOT, but they have to enforce ordinances.

SLIPKNOT kicked off the fourth installment of the Jägermeister Music Tour Tuesday (March 30) in Orlando, Florida. FEAR FACTORY and CHIMAIRA are also onboard for the six-week trek, which wraps up May 14 in Sacramento. The band's next gig takes place tonight (April 2) in Birmingham, Alabama's Sloss Furnace.
